I finally understand, you’re the valley.
You were brutally carved out by a glacier
that merely shaped what remained of me,
until I didn’t recognize us anymore.
Parts of me seemed to be lost
as it pushed out the rock and sediment
holding me complete.
There was a significant cost
as distance between us expanded.
When I realized what I now was,
I knew I had the advantage.
I could see it all clearly from my perspective.
You were the valley as you climbed in awe.
With each new height
you gazed upon a new challenge.
Hoping to return to where you once stood,
I searched for you behind every tree.
I peered behind every waterfall.
I traversed every cave.
You were nowhere to be seen.
It wasn’t until I looked out over my peak
that I saw your magnificence again.
But from a whole new point of view,
where you once reached high you now stretched wide.
Cliffs drop.
Slopes jutted downward
falling softly into footpaths
descending onto flowing streams,
beautiful rock beds,
and waving grasses.
Remaining between us still the water falls.
